Proofreading is not simply reading through your article or web content, and editing is not merely switching on your spellchecker. Proofreading and editing are highly skilled tasks, and ones which are often critical to the success of online marketing literature.

Proofreaders don't read text the same way as most people - every word is weighted evenly, and the entire text is analysed in multiple ways simultaneously, including spelling, grammar, syntax, structure, vocabulary, contextual relevance, linguistic fluidity and readability.

Often the worst person to proofread and edit text is the person who wrote it as this tends to bias the process.
