It’s Apparent That It’s Obviously Clear, Of Course

Posted by:

It irks me somewhat when I come across a writer whose vocabulary is frequented by words such as ‘obviously’, ‘clearly’, and the phrase ‘of course’. If it’s so flippin’ obvious, why say it?

If I am reading an informative article or blog post then it’s quite good to be treated with a modicum of respect. Including the word ‘obviously’ or one of its delinquent cohorts tends to be for one of three reasons.

Such words are frequently included simply because the writer ...

Why You Should Never Dangle Your Modifier In Polite Company

Why You Should Never Dangle Your Modifier In Polite Company“Dropping through the letterbox with a dull thud I picked up the morning post. Sighing deeply the bills dropped into the bin as usual. Having been burnt to a crisp I threw the toast in on top of them.”

As a gentleman I was always taught to avoid encounters which could result in ...

The Difference Between Reading, Proofreading And Editing

The Difference Between Reading, Proofreading And EditingBack in the days when I worked as an English teacher, if I had been given a pound for every time I had to hand back a piece of writing to a student saying ‘read it first!’, well, I’d have had trouble holding my trousers up the pockets would have been so full. Which would have been distracting.

The ...

Nauseating Anxiety – Two Grammatical Mistakes Almost Everyone Makes

Posted by:

Before I became a full time writer I used to be a teacher. I taught English at a number of secondary schools and colleges across the UK, and have always had a love of words and language. I was brought up to respect language and grammar. I can still recall being around 10 years old and being severely reprimanded by my mother for using the noun ‘fun’ as an adjective – no tea until I corrected the grammar of my ...

Writing Advice – What On Earth Do They Mean By ‘Show, Don’t Tell’?

Posted by:

Just when you think you’re getting the hang of this writing lark, some bright spark looks at your hard crafted piece of literature, still moist from the blood, sweat and tears, and mutters something unequivocally unhelpful such as ‘you know, you really should try to show, rather than tell.’

Excuse me? Show, don’t tell? But look, I’m telling you a story, aren’t I? How do I tell a story if I’m not allowed to tell? How do I show you a ...

A Guide To Using The Active Voice Rather Than The Passive Voice

Posted by:

A little boy kissing a little girlOne of the things which you should avoid when creating content for websites, writing blog posts or developing any other web content is the passive voice. It’s often been said that the passive voice is weak, and research suggests that some people find it harder to understand than the active voice.

But whilst the recommendation is to write in the ...

How SEO Article Writing Has Come Full Circle By Moving Forwards

Posted by:

As the online world becomes increasingly social, with Google now indexing Facebook content, personalising results, analysing traffic from social media platforms and taking visitor behaviour into consideration it’s important to be aware of how this all affects SEO article writing.

In the past it was very much the case that most article writers were producing content predominantly aimed at the search engines. This involved creating content which included an abundance of keywords, the aim of which was to appeal to silicon ...

How To Come Up With New Ideas For Useful SEO Articles

Posted by:

For an article writer one of the hardest tasks is trying to think of a new angle or coming up with new content on a subject you may well have been writing about for quite some time.

But one of the most common reasons for this problem is that all too often article writers try to come up with answers, without really thinking too much about the question.

Oh, there’ll invent a question, and probably either include it in the article title ...

Creating Article Writing Tips For Articles With “Dull” Subjects

Posted by:

Some UK article writers get to write about the latest bikini fashions, the latest Porsche or pizza toppings. But sometimes article writers get challenged, having to write SEO articles about subjects such as men’s socks, wallpaper paste or nipple pads. Writing articles on exciting subjects can be fairly easy, and fun, but how do you go about creating interesting search engine optimised content on subjects that may be considered ‘dull’ and less sparkling?

Clearly a basic description of the product may ...

How to Write an Article in Under 30 Minutes

Posted by:

Did you hear the one about the SEO article writer who wanted to spend longer writing each article? No, neither did I. If there’s one thing that unites almost all article writers it’s the desire to be able to write more articles more quickly, spending less time on each article, yet without sacrificing any quality. Is it achievable?

I remember when I first started out writing SEO articles. The first job I was given was writing articles about window blinds and ...
